Man of Steel Movie Review Personal Rant

I loved Man of Steel.

A lot of people are essentially yelling that it sucks and blah blah blah.

I, however, really enjoyed everything about it.

Obviously you cannot please everyone, especially in movies based on characters that are written and depicted by hundreds of different individuals. In turn, these different depictions are liked or disliked by the mass of people that read about these characters. So it is impossible to please everyone.

I’m not writing this to tell you that everyone is wrong and I am right. I’m just saying that there are people out there who really enjoyed it.

I thought everyone’s performance was wonderful. The crescendo of action and super-power use was appreciated. The silence was inspiring. To have a movie with so much action have so many quiet moments, really gave hope that not every superhero movie needs to be an action blockbuster.

People need to get off their high horses of what they think a movie should be, and just enjoy or not enjoy.

Opinions are personal, no one is right or wrong.

Well done Man of Steel team. I appreciate everything you’ve done.

personal Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

I don’t really “celebrate” Thanksgiving. I mean, we would always eat food as a family, and I’m thankful for many things in my life. It just doesn’t mean a whole lot to me. I understand why people love it. It just wasn’t a big deal for me personally.

This year, my lady is off on a well deserved vacation to Miami. I’m really stoked for her. I get to have the homestead to myself (and the animals) and it has been really good. I had some little hangouts with friends here and there, but I also got a good amount of alone time.

However I am very excited for her to return tomorrow. I’m not saying people need to have someone ( a partner ) in life, but if you’re lucky enough to have a good one, it is really great. So to go with the flow, I’m very thankful for her. I won’t go into the sappy details, but she is very important to my life, and I would not want to be long without her.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Personal Backyard Painting Graphiti Spray Paint

Well I bit the bullet this weekend. There is a concrete wall in our backyard and I’ve wanted to paint it since we moved in. I found some great spray paint at an art store unfortunately no thin-line caps, so I couldn’t get lines as thin as I wanted. I still think it came out really well. It brightens the backyard so much more. I’ve missed painting.

Work Personal

What’s Been Up

The reason I’ve been absent from the blogger-sphere the past few weeks is because I got a new job as a graphic / web designer at Napkin Works. Which meant I had to leave my other job that I got three months ago at Liberated. I think it’s a good move. I didn’t want to leave Liberated in a lurch, so I setup some interviews with capable people and they’ve hired my replacement. Don’t want to burn any bridges in a place like Halifax.

Other than that, it has been mostly the same. Playing Magic on Thursdays, hanging out with my special lady, tolerating this ungodly weather we are having. It’s so humid. The animals seem to be okay with it, they’re the ones who I worry about the most.

So everything is going well.

Personal Beach JJ Corey Maddie

Myself, JJ, Corey and Maddie went to the beach today. We found a really great spot that had barely any other people. Sun was nice, water was cool, air was salty. Everyone had a good time.

bike personal orange trek earl

I picked up my bike last week! It’s so much fun to ride. I love it.

I was feeling kinda ‘blegh’ yesterday and decided to make a little shift in life. I usually only read comics/graphic novels and lately there has been nothing that I want to read. I only like reading in trades, I have a whole host of problems with single issues, but that’s my thing. I’ve been waiting for some stuff to come out but it just hasn’t been happening.

After I picked up some cat food yesterday, I rounded the corner into one of our local bookstores and told them that I mostly read comics and was looking to get into “regular” books. I mentioned that I was interested in mystery and so I picked up “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” and “Bleeding Hearts”. I haven’t seen the GwDT movies so I should have a fresh take on it. I also know Ian Rankin from his work with the Vertigo Crime Hellblazer book he did that I enjoyed.

I’m hoping that reading something new and different will keep my spirits up and give me a new perspective.

Personal Ghost Recon Bookshelf Batman Mom

Whoa! A post! Finally! Where have I been?

Busy. That’s what.

We’ve almost finished unpacking our place and hopefully I’ll have some photos of the apartment without mountains of boxes.

I traded in a boat-load of old Xbox360 games that I don’t play anymore and they had a deal on where you get a bunch more trade in value which was amazing. I managed to pickup Prototype 2, fully pay off a Pre-Order of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier AND put like $30 down on the Pre-Order for Hitman. Very excited.

I had to throw out my old bookshelf because it was falling apart, and I got this really cool “leaning ladder” style bookshelf thats unobtrusive and looks baller. It even has a little space for some of my Batman: Black & White statues.

My Mom came to visit last week on sort of a surprise. She had a rough road trip and had to get out of there, so she booked it here. It was good because we managed to do a crazy rush unpack to make room for her. She had a really great time while she was here and it was nice to have her around for a week or so.

Finally, I’m going to try to grow my moustache longer than my beard. Last night was the first trim of the beard while keeping the moustache longer. We will see how it goes, I might hate it.

Well I haven’t updated the blog in a while. Reasons being I’ve been super busy. I know that’s a general “lack-of-blogging” reason, but I’ll break it down for you.

I’ve finished my work at The Coast and now I’m working at a company called Liberated that does all manner of things. I’m on to do graphic / web design, but the company does software development, web development, web hosting and they have their own CMS. So thats pretty great. So far its been much better than my last few months at the old job.

I’ve also taken up playing Magic very casually. It’s a hard game to play casually, as most of the players around locally are really intense. I have a few friends who are into it, but they’re busier than I am. Building the decks has been fun and I’m really starting to dig the gameplay.

Battlefield 3 has been taking a bunch of my time too since I’ve found a few regular players on Xbox Live. The enjoyment in the game increases ten-fold when you can actually communicate with people. Who would have thought?

Most recently our neighbours had a crazy flood in their apartment. Which means some of it has spilled into our apartment. Mainly on the bottom floor, but that is where the ugly carpet is. So the plus side is that it’s being ripped up and hopefully nice flooring down. It also forced us to do a bunch of chores all at once. Nothing we had got really ruined. JJ was awesome enough to grab a bunch of the things that would have been totally wrecked while I had to go to work.

That’s my life recently. Now I have to get back to work.
